
Greek scientific publications in the field of artificial intelligence show a steady upward trend over the fifteen years 2006-2020.
In particular, from 1175 publications in the five-year period 2006-2010. (an average of 235 publications) they increase to 1411 in the five-year period 2011-2015. (an average of 282 publications) and up to 1839 in the five-year period 2016-2016. 2020, annual average 368).
This data is the result of the statistics and indicators of the new edition of the National Center for Documentation and Electronic Content (EKT) “Identification and analysis of Greek scientific publications in the field of artificial intelligence with machine learning methods”.
From 135 publications in 2006 to 444 in 2020
Detailed in the period 2006-2020. a total of 4,425 scientific publications related to artificial intelligence were identified, showing a strong upward trend.
In particular, only 135 publications were recorded in 2006, which gave way to 444 publications in 2020, which is also the maximum indicator of the reporting period on which this study was focused.
Universities with a large volume of publications related to AI
As regards the bodies producing these publications, universities occupy the first three positions. In particular, the University of Patras ranks first with 631 publications, followed by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with 556 publications and the National Technical University of Athens with 448 publications.
In fourth place is the Foundation for Technology and Research (ITE) with 322 publications. In the rest of the rankings, we see the University of Piraeus with 296 publications, the Thracian University of Democritus with 260 publications, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) with 250 publications and the Technical University of Crete with 198 publications.
More common terms
The most common terms included in these publications, highlighting certain specialized areas of artificial intelligence in which Greek agencies are active, are the terms robot, neural network, machine learning, fuzzy c, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithm.
In terms of cooperation and networking, there are a total of 71 countries with which Greek institutions collaborate on scientific publications related to artificial intelligence for the period 2006-2020.
Using the geographic addresses (affiliations) of the authors, it is recorded that the UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, China, Cyprus, the Netherlands and Belgium are the countries with which the scientists of the Greek bodies and institutions are mainly associated in research.
