Alka murder trial: EKAV rescuers testify

Trial of 12 defendants over fan-motivated attack on 19-year-old continues on day 13 at the Mixed Jury Trial in Thessaloniki with statements from EKAV rescuers. Alki Campanu and the wounding of two of his friends in the early morning of February 1, 2022 in the Kharilau region.

In total, four rescuers were interrogated as witnesses, all members of the crews of the ABEC stations, who were informed of the departure to the scene of the murderous episode. Two of them were called to pick up Alkis when his death was confirmed, and two others testified on behalf of his wounded friend.

In the case of his wounded friend, witnesses reported that he had a deep wound from a sharp object on his buttocks, the length of which was determined to be approximately 10 to 15 centimeters. “We treated his wound and tried to calm him down. He was in a state of panic. He told us that where he was sitting with his friends, someone appeared out of nowhere and asked what group you were from, ”one of the rescuers told the court. He added that the young man himself “bandaged” the wound with a shirt, which he mentioned “helped” him stop the bleeding.

Commenting on the blow to a specific point (the buttock), a colleague of the rescuer expressed the opinion that it was a “symbolic blow”. “It was a trauma to show that I have you.” “To mark you so that you remember me.” This is the sign of prison. It includes symbolism. This is a personal judgment. Whoever did this didn’t want to kill,” he said.

The trial has been adjourned and will continue tomorrow with the questioning of new witnesses. The list of those called to testify includes another of Alka’s friends, who caught up and fled the scene of the attack.

Meanwhile, in the next 24 hours, a ceremony is expected to rename T. Gazi Street to Alkibiadis Campana Street at the site of the murder of a 19-year-old teenager. The decision to rename was recently made by the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia-Thrace, accepting a request to honor the memory of the unfortunate student.
