At 6.1% inflation in February from 7% in January. The consumer price index increased 0.3% on a monthly basis, compared with a 1.1% increase recorded in the corresponding comparison of the previous year.

Inflation: fell to 6.1% in Feb-2

The increase in inflation by 0.3% in February compared to January was mainly due to changes in the following groups of goods and services:

1. From an increase in indicators by:
• 1.5% in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages group, mainly due to higher prices for: beef, pork, cheeses, olive oil, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, frozen vegetables, coffee. Some of this growth was offset by lower prices, mainly for pasta and canned or processed vegetables.
• 0.7% in Durable Goods – Household Goods and Services, mainly due to higher prices for household items for direct consumption.
• 2.3% in the Health group, mainly due to higher prices for pharmaceutical products.
• 1.3% in the “Transport” group, mainly due to the growth in prices for: motor fuel (gasoline), air passenger tickets. Part of this increase was offset by lower prices, mainly for diesel fuel.
• 0.4% in the Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants group, mainly due to higher prices in restaurants-pastry-cafes. Some of this growth was offset by price cuts, mainly in hotels-motels-inns.
• 0.3% in the “Other goods and services” group, mainly due to price increases in: other personal care products, hairdressers and personal care stores.

2. From a decrease in performance by:
• 4.4% in the clothing and footwear group due to general winter sales.
• 2.0% in the Housing group, mainly due to lower prices for: natural gas, fuel oil. Part of this decline was offset by higher electricity prices.
• 0.4% in the Communications group, mainly due to lower prices for telephony services.

Annually

The increase in inflation by 6.1% in February compared to the corresponding month of 2022 was mainly due to changes in the following groups of goods and services:

1. From an increase in indicators by:
• 14.8% in the group Food and non-alcoholic beverages, due to price increases mainly for: bread and cereals, meat (in general), fish (in general), dairy products and eggs, oils and fats, vegetables (in in general), sugar-chocolate-sweet ice-cream, other products, coffee-cocoa-tea, mineral water soft drinks-fruit juices.
• 2.9% in the “Alcoholic drinks and tobacco products” group, mainly due to the increase in prices for alcoholic beverages (not served).
• 7.1% in the clothing and footwear group due to rising prices for clothing and footwear.
• 10.5% in the Durable Goods-Household goods and services group, due to price increases mainly for: household appliances and repairs, tableware and household utensils, household goods for direct consumption, household services.
• 5.3% in the Health group, mainly due to rising prices for: pharmaceutical products, medical products, medical, dental and paramedical services, inpatient treatment.
• 6.5% in the Transport group, mainly due to rising prices for: new cars, used cars, mopeds-motorcycles, auto parts and accessories, fuels and lubricants, maintenance and repair of personal vehicles, tickets for taxi passengers , transport tickets air passenger tickets, passenger ferry tickets.
• 3.5% in the Leisure-Cultural events group, due to price increases mainly for: small leisure goods-flowers-animals, cinemas-theatres, stationery and design materials, tour packages.
• 2.2% in the Education group, mainly due to higher prices for: primary education fees, secondary education fees.
• 8.1% in the Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants group, mainly due to price growth in restaurants-pastry-cafés, hotels, motels-hotels.
• 5.8% in the “Other goods and services” group, mainly due to price increases in: hairdressers and personal care stores, other personal hygiene items, other personal items, health insurance premiums.

2. From decreasing the index by:
• 4.9% in the Housing group, mainly due to lower prices for: electricity, fuel oil. Part of this growth was offset by rising prices mainly for: rental housing, home repairs and maintenance, utilities, natural gas, LPG, solid fuels.
• 1.6% in the Communications group, mainly due to lower prices for telephony services.
