The winning team does not change! In this case, the coach Mister. Georgios Dasios stay in place President of the National Examination Organizationwhich organizes countrywide for admission to universities until 2026. He first took part in the Panhellenic Examinations in 1992, participating in the Central Examination Board (CEC), which selects the subjects every year. Niki Kerameos is the 20th Minister of Education with whom she collaborates during the Panhellenic Examinations. What exams, in his opinion, are the most successful? “Those that go unnoticed by the media”!
In particular, a recent parliamentary decree increased the maximum term of office for the president and other board members of the National Examinations Organization from two to three terms, while at the same time providing that the total term of office of a person cannot exceed twelve years. In fact, in this scenario, Mr. Dasios will leave at the latest in 2026, that is, when he turns 80 years old.
Today he is an honorary professor at the University of Patras and an honorary fellow of the Hellenic Foundation for Technology and Research, as well as a corresponding member of the Athens Academy in the field of mathematics with the title of “Applied Analysis”. He has taught and been invited to lecture at research seminars at over 100 universities, mainly in the US and Europe, but also in other countries such as Japan, Korea, Finland, Brazil and Israel.
“The best exams are when they are not noticed,” emphasizes K, a professor who has worked with 20 education ministers.
The first minister with whom he collaborated in the panhellenic courts was Giorgos Souflias. Since then – with the exception of the period of Marietta Jannach’s ministry when he was at Cambridge – he has always been in a position in the group of people who are at the forefront of organizing the best examinations that are held in our country every year. “This is a special process that keeps everyone’s nerves on edge, as mistakes cannot be made,” observes Mr. Dasios in “K”.adding, however, that because of his experience and the experienced partners he chooses, “water has entered the groove.”
He believes that frequent changes of CEC members are wrong, but the group should “rally”. In fact, during the examination period, a total of 200 people participate in the selection of subjects, under the strictest secrecy, ensuring the integrity of the process.
The Panhellenic Examinations are considered an annual major event with overtly political overtones, as “every family usually has a candidate. Do not forget the importance of a diploma in our time, as well as the costs and sacrifices that a Greek family makes for the success of a child.” The Minister of Education had previously told “K”.. Well, during the exam, all the attention of society is turned to KEE and, accordingly, to the ministry. “The best exams are when they are not noticed. This means that there are no disagreements on issues.” Mr. Dasios underlines the “K”. and adds with a smile that “last year there was a war in Ukraine, rising energy prices and the aggression of our country’s neighbors, as a result of which the media – at least television – did not deal with exams.”
This year, exams start on June 1st. Thus, it is possible that their organization will affect the timing of the elections, as well as raise adrenaline even more, because mistakes are unacceptable, especially during the election period.
