The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, called it an “example of hypocrisy” that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, was not invited to speak at the Oscar award ceremony, EFE and Agerpres reported on Sunday.

“I think that if All Quiet on the Western Front wins the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, while President Zelensky, who is at war, who is running the country, who is waging the biggest war since World War II in Europe, is not allowed to speak at the Oscars, there is no better example of the hypocrisy of top managers and producers in the film industry,” Kuleba told the German Sunday newspaper Bild am Sonntag.

“The word ‘ridiculous’ is not enough to describe this hypocrisy,” said Dmytro Kuleba, who made it clear that he did not question the quality of the film.

“I’m just saying, folks, if you’re going to award a war movie and don’t think, when you’re drinking champagne and wearing beautiful dresses with diamonds, that someone else wants to hear a real war story. is happening here and now, then something is wrong with you,” Kuleba excused himself.

The Academy “Oscar” has already refused Zelensky for the second time to speak at the award ceremony, which causes uproar, discussions and speculations about the reason for the refusal, the German publication notes.

According to Variety, American producer Will Packer had already turned down Zelensky’s appearance at last year’s gala, apparently out of concern that Russia’s war of aggression would attract attention in Hollywood simply because its victims were white.
