On the current Southern Ring Road of the capital, three transitions are being built, all in the form of suspended roundabouts, so that the intersection is raised above the ground, and below the ring road and the railway line intersect without traffic conflict. Of all, only the Domnești passage was ready and inaugurated in 2022, while the Berceni and Olteniței passages were not ready in time and will be inaugurated only this year.

The intersection of the Bucharest ring road with the Berceni and Oltenita highways is still under construction: two elongated suspended roundabouts are being built, and the work involves doubling the current lane in sections of several kilometers on both sides of the future thoroughfares.

Initially, the completion and opening of the Bercheny and Oltenit passages in December 2022 was discussed, but the works were not ready in time. The work began in August-September 2020 and theoretically had a completion period of 24 months…

Currently, builders are actively working on the grand opening of two passages in the first half of this year.

Why are suspended roundabouts being built on the Capital Ring Road

Four suspended roundabouts on the Capital Ring Road are currently under review: Domnești roundabout is already open, Berceni and Oltenita roundabouts are under construction, and in Cernica work has been stopped with an Italian builder unable to mobilize for construction. site for two years.
