The proposals of the railway workers for its safe restart were discussed at a meeting held today by the Minister of State, who is also in charge of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Giorgos Gerapetritis, with representatives Panhellenic Federation of Railways (POS) and other unions. “A very serious and constructive discussion took place and it was decided to immediately set up a new meeting to continue it and safely restart the railway,” the ministry said in a statement.
In his statements after the meeting, POS-MST President Yannis Ditzas said:proposals were presented by POS, which are timeless but relevant today for an open, safe and quality railway“. “The obligation of the ministry,” he continued, “is that in order to resume the operation of the railway, all guarantees must be provided both from the state and from the workers for the safe operation of the railway. We will meet again next week to see how the process goes.”
According to railway sources, among the proposals of the Unions, which will be concretized and combined into a single text, the adoption of measures such as:
- Psychological support for employees of traction facilities and train traffic
- Gradual resumption of operation of mainline trains and staffing them with train traffic and management personnel consisting of three people.
- The immediate resumption of commercial train traffic in Northern Greece and, after the restoration of the railway infrastructure, the gradual rerouting of all commercial trains.
- Reducing speed limits on non-remote network segments
- Update of the General Rules of the Road and their precise application
- Clear definition of the duties of the train leader
- Proper consumption of parts for increased and reliable rolling stock
- Training of traction and transport personnel for the entire rolling stock
- Immediate coverage of the needs of the road network departments,
- Reduction of passenger routes by approximately 50% (mainline trains)
- Gradual increase in all suburban train routes
- Restart GSMR
- Immediate constancy of colleagues with service delivery with evaluation
- New announcement of positions related to the organizational structure during the quarter
