The Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) is considering capping RCA prices to protect consumers, Daniel Apostol, ASF spokesman, told HotNews.ro on Thursday.
Asked if a 6-month limit, which would apply to both individuals and legal entities, was being considered, an ASF spokesman said “all aspects are being analyzed” and he could not say more at this time.
The Financial Conduct Authority (ASF) responded on Thursday to the RCA base rate hike scandal by publishing a chart on its website showing that these base rates are not selling prices and that they have risen by 16.28% over the past 6 months .
This average increase of 16.28% will apply to more than 90% of cars (cars only, not all vehicles) insured by the RCA and registered to individuals, ASF said.
Compared to a year ago, however, RCA benchmarks are over 41% higher for certain categories of drivers, as HotNews.ro showed a day ago.
RCA’s highest prices they will be available to car owners under the age of 30 who drive cars with a cylinder capacity of more than 2,500 cubic meters.
The rate is about 14% higher than in August 2022, when its value was 4,140 lei, and 28% higher than in February 2022, when the base rate for this category was 3,551 lei.
For drivers of the same age category who own cars with a cylinder capacity less than or equal to 1,200 cmc, the basic RCA rate announced by ASF is now 1,822 lei, which is 19% higher than in August 2022 (when the rate was 1,532 lei) and 41.7% more than in February 2022 (when this rate was 1286 lei).
At the opposite pole are RCA’s lowest prices car owners aged 51 to 60 who drive cars with a cylinder capacity of less than or equal to 1200 cc will continue to receive benefits, but also for prices will be higher than before.
Therefore, the new RCA reference rate announced by ASF for these drivers is 1,006 lei, which is 17% more compared to August 2022, when the rate was 860 lei, and 32% more than February 2022, when the rate for this category was 762 lei.
