German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius warned against hasty accusations against a pro-Ukrainian group in connection with last year’s attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius warned on Wednesday following media reports of intelligence from US officials’ investigations.
“It is also possible that this is a fabricated operation aimed at blaming Ukraine, which is also mentioned in the media,” Pistorius said in an interview with public television station Deutschlandfunk.
“The chances of one or the other are equally high,” he added. Mr. Pistorius made these statements in Stockholm, where the meetings of the defense ministers of the EU countries are taking place.
Information assessed by US officials indicates that a pro-Ukrainian group is responsible for attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines in 2022, according to a report in the New York Times on Tuesday.
However, there is no evidence that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky or his closest aides were involved in the case, or that the perpetrators acted on orders from representatives of the Ukrainian government, the newspaper added, citing US representatives.
