At least 15 people have been killed and dozens injured in an explosion at a commercial building in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka.
The explosion occurred inside a seven-story building, resulting in severe damage to two floors.
A police officer told the Chinese news agency Xinhua that the explosion occurred around 4:45 pm (local time) near a bus ticket office.
“The commercial building had many shops selling plumbing and household goods. The explosion also damaged a bus parked on the opposite side of the building,” said a fire brigade official.
The cause of the explosion is not clear and the death toll could rise as rescue efforts continue. Officials cited by Xinhua said at least 10 people died and more than 100 were injured in the powerful explosion.
Last Sunday, three people were killed in another explosion in Dhaka.
On Saturday, seven people died and many were injured in a fire following an explosion at a factory in southeastern Bangladesh.
