The vote for the appointment of the president of the Permanent Electoral Body was again postponed due to differences between the PSD and the PNL. Toni Greble is the PSD’s proposal for the post, but the liberals refuse to vote for him unless the vice president they support is appointed head of the AEP, HotNews.ro reports.
After the resignation of Konstantin Florin Mitulec Buike from the post of AEP president, PSD nominated a new candidate in the person of Toni Grebl. According to the political agreement between the PSD and the PNL, the appointment of the AEP president belongs to the Social Democrats.
Cited sources claim that the liberals are not satisfied with the fact that Aleksandr Mitulets Buike remains in the management of the institution, in the position of general secretary of the institution (after he held a competition for this position and won it).
It should be noted that in 2018, Mituletsu-Buike won the competition for the post of AEP Secretary General, but was removed by law when he was appointed AEP President.
With the appointment of Toni Grebl as president and the return of Mitulec Buike as AEP secretary general, the PSD gains control of two key positions, while the PNL has no man at the head of the institution.
The other two AEP vice-president positions are held by UDMR-backed Jombor Vaida and Marian Mugulet, proposed by the USR and appointed by President Klaus Iohannis.
The stake of AEP control is the organization of elections in 2024
The liberals claim that the Social Democrats played a “trick” and allowed Mitulec Buike to return as secretary general to control the institution, top PNL sources told HotNews.ro.
The liberals want the PSD to recall Mituleca-Buike from the post of AEP secretary general and to organize a new competition for the post.
The importance of appointments to the Permanent Electoral Body should be seen in the context of the 2024 election year, when the institution will organize all four types of elections: European, local, parliamentary and presidential.
It will be recalled that on February 21, the appointment of Tony Grebl as the head of the Permanent Electoral Body was postponed for two weeks at the request of the PNL. At the time, Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke asked Marcel Čolaka to postpone the parliamentary procedure to review the positions in the AEP board.
