An enraged American flight passenger tried to open the door of a United Airlines plane during a flight from Los Angeles to Boston and hit a flight attendant in the neck with a broken spoon.

A Massachusetts man has been arrested after allegedly trying to hit a flight attendant in the neck with a metal spoon three times during a flight on Monday, according to the US Department of Justice.

Francisco Severo Torres, 33, has been charged with assaulting crew members with a dangerous weapon. Torres was arrested at Boston’s Logan International Airport on Monday and will remain in custody pending a hearing scheduled for Thursday.

During the flight to Boston, the crew saw an alarm signal indicating that a door on the aircraft had been disarmed, and on examination, the flight attendant saw that the door lock handle had been pulled out of its fully locked position and the emergency latch lever had been cocked. of necessity were disarmed, according to a statement from the ministry.

Shortly thereafter, Torres allegedly got up from his seat, threw something, and then attacked “one of the flight attendants with a broken metal spoon, hitting him three times in the neck,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the criminal report, Torres told investigators that he broke a spoon in the plane’s toilet to use it as a weapon. He also told law enforcement that he tried to open the emergency door and intended to jump out of the plane.

Torres also told investigators that he was trying to defend himself and stabbed a flight attendant because he thought they were trying to kill him.

Finally, with the help of some passengers, the flight attendants managed to take control of Torres, who was yelling that he was taking control of the aircraft.
