​Jacqueline Christian won the ITF tournament in Trnava on Sunday, our athlete beat Okean Dodin (France – the third favorite) in the balanced final.

Our 266th WTA player needed two tiebreaks to overcome Dodin (101 WTA), 7-6(7), 7-6(4).

Set I

The first set of the final in Trnava was spectacular: after four breaks (two on each side) a tie-break took place.

The French woman was more inspired, better coped with important moments and in the end led with a confident score of 6-2. From there, however, the waters got choppy, and Jacqueline (freed from her emotions) staged a fantastic comeback.

From 6-2, Dodin reached 6-6, then our athlete canceled another set point (there were five of them in total). In the end, the set went to Jacqueline 9-7.

Set II

The tie in the second set was broken in the eighth game when Dodin broke to go 5-3. There were all signs that we would have a decisive match.

Jacqueline did not give up the fight, but restored the tie (5-5), and then moved the set into a new tie-break.

Ocean started the better, leading 2-0, but Christian turned the tide of the set in his favor, winning the set 7-4. The final in Trnava lasted two hours and 21 minutes.

The ITF tournament from Trnava was held from February 27 to March 5 on hard, had a total prize pool of $60,000, and started with 32 players in the main draw.
