Another deceased person was identified after examining samples in forensic laboratories, bringing the total number of identified victims of the tragic train accident to Tempe at 55, according to the police, who perform the nasty task of identification.
Recall that the total number of confirmed deaths at the moment is 57 people.
According to the latest reports from the headquarters of the Greek army, there are also two samples of biological material provided by relatives that do not match the samples of the dead. This may slightly change the final number of victims, but the laboratory testing procedures have not yet been completed.
In particular, the fire service sent another sample of biological material from the scene of the accident, which was discovered last night while the locomotive of a commercial train was moving.
Investigations must be completed
It also became known from the headquarters of the PS that the investigation at the accident site is at its final stage, with the withdrawal of two engines, which was delayed yesterday due to rain. In the morning, the Greek army, which had joined the fire brigade’s efforts, withdrew.
Since the morning, EMAK fighters have been carrying out due diligencewhen collecting personal belongings of passengers. The difficulties encountered by the rescuers are evidenced by loose soil in the area, which has turned into a swamp due to rains.
Today, the fourth and fifth carriages of the fatal train are expected to be transferred to the OSB site in Larisa for further investigation.
After that, a final “scan” will be carried out over an area of about 500 square meters. Immediately thereafter, the completion of the investigation will be announced, possibly by today, unless unforeseen circumstances arise.
