The All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club may lift the ban on Russians and Belarusians from participating in the Wimbledon tournament, writes The Daily Telegraph.

Players from Russia and Belarus can be admitted to the Wimbledon International Tennis Tournament this year. On Friday, March 3, reported the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

“All expectations indicate that the AELTC (All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. – Ed.) will lift the ban for Russians and Belarusians,” the publication noted.

As reported by the sports news agency SID, the ban, imposed last year in the context of Russia’s war in Ukraine, could be lifted at the British Grand Slam tournament from 3 to 16 July.

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) have decided not to play ranking points at Wimbledon 2022 following the AELTC ban.

Russian and Belarusian athletes were allowed to compete in the Australian, French and US Opens last year.

Elena Rybakina of Moscow is the winner of the Grand Slam tournament in women’s singles

Yelena Rybakina, 23, from Moscow, representing Kazakhstan, won the Wimbledon Women’s Grand Slam in July 2022. Later, Serbian Novak Djokovic won the Wimbledon tennis tournament for the seventh time in her sports career.

In January, the International Olympic Committee proposed allowing athletes from Belarus and Russia to compete in a neutral status if those athletes did not support the war in Ukraine.
