Tesla is first and foremost electric cars, but it’s also one of the most advanced driver assistance technologies on the market.
Originally known as Autopilot, Tesla is now going one step further, offering FSD Beta, “Fully Autonomous Driving Capability,” “Full Self-Driving Capability” in its original version, with which the manufacturer promises the term automated city driving.
An expensive option, but with some success
This feature is currently in beta, but customers in North America already have access to it. This option is priced at the price of gold, as the customer must pay no less than 15,000 USD.
A few features have been added, others removed, but recent user feedback is starting to show a particularly fine-tuned system, but not without a few flaws. At this point, we obviously don’t know when the final version will be available.
About 1.5 million Teslas are eligible (including those already on the road due to upgrades), and about 20% of them have the “Completely autonomous driving” option..
Go to return better?
But the latest shortcomings that Tesla faced forced the brand to make a rather drastic decision. So, the manufacturer has just suspended the deployment of its FSD Beta driver assistance software in the United States and Canadatime to eliminate faults recently detected by the regulator.
Indeed, according to a report published a few days ago, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimated that software defects could lead to vehicles to act in potentially dangerous ways at intersections. As a result, exactly 362,758 cars should receive updates.
Tesla has not yet indicated when the FSD beta will be available again. The brand simply states on its website: “Until a version of the software containing the changes is available, we have suspended the FSD Beta rollout for anyone who subscribed to it but has not yet received it”.
The American legislator is very cautious about this technology, as well as the terms used by Tesla and its boss Elon Musk, who is not shy about being very optimistic about this system, saying, in particular, for a very long time that self-driving on a Tesla is a matter of months .
