“The Ministry no longer takes an active role in initiating criminal investigations”
During an interview for the head of the General Prosecutor’s Office, which took place before a commission led by the Minister of Justice, Prosecutor Alex-Florin Florenta said that at the moment the Ministry of State no longer takes any active role in what it means to open criminal investigations.
- “When I spoke about passivity (…) I meant the fact that at the moment the Ministry of Public Affairs no longer takes any active role in starting criminal investigations and in determining, above all, priority areas, except for some declarations . good intentions that we sometimes assume in a draft balance sheet or other similar document.
- Everything related to the knowledge component of the criminal phenomenon is currently and over time has been completely outsourced.
- We always think that any other institution should deal with this phenomenon, but not us.
- The second is that we have completely outsourced what it means to have the ability and willingness to open criminal investigations, and I meant what it means to reduce the intention at the level of the Public Ministry at the moment because of the existence of ex officio reports,” said Alex Florenza, reports Agerpres.
According to him, notifications from other institutions are expected “every time”:
- “It seems to me that we are in an atypical situation, when we are always waiting for information, reports from other institutions, whether individuals or legal entities at the same time.
- We have a responsibility to conduct our own criminal investigations in sensitive areas of crime, and I don’t see how these two aspects can be reconciled as long as you are constantly waiting for raw materials from other agencies and only work on what someone else wants you to work on in this moment”.
