In their statements yesterday Pavlos Polakis Transparency leaders Yiannis Ragusis and Judge Theophilos Xanthopoulos mention in their joint statement, clarifying that “the political statements of Pavlos Polakis, formulated yesterday in his office, absolutely contradict our unanimously approved policy statements on the functioning of the state, justice and institutions.”
As noted: “They were formulated in response to the interview of the President of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras to the Proto Tema newspaper, in an unprecedented and completely unfounded way.”
They also refer to the intervention of the Athenian Crime Prosecutor’s Office “which demands investigation of offenses related to the incitement of citizens to commit crimes and violence against judicial officials”, stating that “this should not become part of the political game”.
According to the relevant statement: “Political views, no matter how one disagrees with them, cannot be the subject of prosecutorial interference and are even selective. In connection with the recent public and repeated statements by Minister A. Georgiadis that “Tulupaki should go to jail” or by the same Minister M. Voridis “we must intervene in the state so that the left does not return to power in any form”, no caused not the slightest reaction of the public prosecutor. Also, the recently established illegal surveillance of the leadership of the Armed Forces was recognized as having no legal significance.
They conclude by stating: “It is clear that the slogan of SYRIZA-P.S. for “Justice Everywhere” becomes painfully topical and becomes an urgent social necessity.
