The Civil Guard detained a fugitive from the Romanian justice system in the municipality of Vilafant (Girona), where he was sentenced to 17 years in prison for murder. According to the Romanian authorities, 41-year-old PL, linked to organized crime in that country, acabó a golpes con la vida de un hombre en 2006 junto a tras personas, al parecer membro de un rival clan.

According to what the Civil Guard was able to learn from various sources of information, this person was arrested in 2017 for a crime against public health in the province of Girona, but for carrying false documents, at that time it was not possible to determine his true identity Before this situation agents from the Unidad Central Operativa (UCO), after a thorough search for the possible whereabouts of this man, managed to find and detain him not far from what he was, after several changes in his last home, in particular in the municipality of gerundense from Vilafant.

Europe’s Most Wanted Europe’s Most Wanted is a public web page managed by the European Police Agency, Europol, where ENFAST collects information on the most wanted fugitives from every country in the European Union. On the other hand, ENFAST is a network of European-level police teams responsible for actively searching for fugitives on all continents.

The continuous development of cross-border crime has prompted the various police authorities of the Member States to unify the criteria of action and the speed of communication with any other police bases regarding fugitives at the European level, and to exchange any direct and immediate information that may facilitate the localization and apprehension of mismos, all with the main goal of achieving greater security for the citizenry, using the ENFAST network to do so.

The Civil Guard, with the help of available public information on the “Europe’s Most Wanted” network, conducted an exhaustive investigation that finally led to the discovery and arrest of the fugitive. Thanks to the efforts made by the Civil Guard in this area, in the last few months it has been able to identify and arrest several of the most wanted and dangerous fugitives at the European level, bringing in murderers, pederasts and some of the main ones responsible for various international criminal organizations.

This investigation was carried out by the Equipo de Huidos de la Justicia de la Unidad Central Operativa de la Guardia Civil, junto con la Unidad Orgánica de Policía Judicial de la Comandancia de Girona, in collaboration with the Agregaduría de Interior de la Embajada de Romania in Spain. Tanto el detenido como las diligencias practicadas fueron entregados en el Juzgado Central de Instrucción número 5 de la Audiencia Nacional, el cual decretó su ingresso en prisión.
