Graham Potter, death threats

Chelsea are 10th in the Premier League with two wins in their last 14 games and have scored just one goal at home this year.

“Even though I’ve had support, I’ve also had some not-so-nice emails saying they want me dead and my sons dead, so obviously that’s unpleasant to receive.

The task for me is: “Okay, how should I behave?”. This is something I always come back to. The higher you rise, the more pressure you feel on yourself as an individual.

I want to succeed here. There are stupid rumors that I don’t care. where do I come from? Where is the evidence? If you go to work and someone swears at you, it will be unpleasant.

You can answer in two ways. I could say I don’t care, but you know I’d be lying. Everyone cares what people think because we are wired to be socially connected.

Ask my family how we are doing lately. It was not pleasant at all. I understand that the fans go home and are upset because the team is not winning, but I assure you, my life in the last three or four months has been pretty mediocre, other than that I am very grateful for this experience” – Graham Potter for Sky Sports.

Fans have crossed the line by threatening Graham Potter’s family

Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel in September and won just nine of 25 games played. He believes fans have a right to be angry, but they crossed the line by threatening his family.

“You have to ignore it and luckily it’s an isolated incident, it can come from anywhere. I guess it’s just a throwaway line. I don’t attach much importance to it.

It is unpleasant neither for me nor for my family. You accept criticism, you accept being booed, if you lose a match, you accept absolutely everything that comes your way.

Of course, there is a line, but I would not be the first to cross that line, and perhaps in this case it was crossed” – Graham Potterbefore the match with Tottenham.

Chelsea have Premier League games against Tottenham (February 26, away) and Leeds United (March 4, home) ahead, followed by the return of the Champions League round of 16 with Borussia Dortmund (7 March, at home, the German team won 1-0 in the leg of the tour).
