Palais Garnier: Airbnb for a night at the Paris Opera

Airbnb and the Paris National Opera are teaming up to transform one of the Palais Garnier’s galleries, the Box of Honor, into a luxurious bedroom.

While the gallery is usually reserved for dignitaries and public figures, this summer two lucky people will be able to spend the night there for the symbolic price of 37 euros – that’s also a gallery number.

Bookings for one night at the iconic gallery open at 12:00 noon on March 1st, and whoever wins the coveted spot will spend the entire night of July 16th overlooking the iconic stage of the opera house that inspired The Phantom of the Opera.

The stay also includes a private ballet lesson from one of the Opera’s dancers, a private concert by artists from the opera academy, dinner in the rehearsal room next to the stage, a tour of special dance studios, as well as invisible to the general public, such as the underground lake and the archives of the building.

The Phantom of the Opera has been the longest-running Broadway production since 2016. In recent years, the production, like many other performing arts productions of all genres around the world, has experienced declining ticket sales and inflation. This spring, after 35 years, the legendary musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber will come to an end as the production ‘fades out’.

Staying at Palais Garnier is part of Airbnb’s efforts to revive cultural tourism in Europe.

And it’s not the first time places that the world knows and admires, but which were never considered places to sleep, are offered for the night. Airbnb has previously advertised stays at the Moulin Rouge and George Harrison’s home, among others.
