Biden: Putin thought he would take Kyiv and destroy NATO

In three emotional messages on his Twitter account, U.S. President Joe Biden highlighted the falsification of Putin’s expectations a year after the invasion of Ukraine began and underscored the West’s harsh reaction to Russian adventurism.

“When Russia attacked Ukraine,” the American president writes in his first post, “America and our allies reacted harshly. For [εθνική] sovereignty. For democracy. For freedom.”

He also added visuals to his recent surprise visit to Kyiv, also stating that “I visited Kyiv to declare that we will continue to be united. Whatever happens.”

In his second post, Mr. Biden recalls that “a year ago, President Putin thought he would take Kyiv quickly.” He adds: “Then he faced the courage of Ukraine and the iron will of peoples all over the world.”

In a new post on his account, the American president notes: “President Putin thought that NATO would split and split. On the contrary, NATO is stronger and more united than ever.”
