The National Institute for Research and Development of Earth Physics (INCDFP) sent on Tuesday an analysis of the data registered in the Gorges area, following earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 5 registered last week, News.ro reports. So far, 810 aftershocks have been recorded, of which 300 had a magnitude of 1 to 1.5, and another 240 had a magnitude of 1.5 to 2. In addition, 171 earthquakes occurred in one day, respectively on February 17.
INCDFP presents on Tuesday what the sequence of earthquakes near Tirgu Jiu looks like in detail.
According to preliminary data, 810 earthquakes have been recorded since February 13. The most – 171 – was on February 17. Another 167 – February 14, 151 – February 15 and 142 – February 16.
Most of the earthquakes, 300 respectively, were between magnitude 1 and 1.5, and 240 were between 1.5 and 2. Eight earthquakes were above magnitude 3, and 3 earthquakes were above magnitude 4.
In addition, most earthquakes occurred at a depth of 15 to 20 kilometers.
“Seismic stations continue to transmit real-time data to the National Data Center and aftershocks in the area are being localized, particularly earthquakes below 2.0m. In recent days, there has been a decrease in the number of earthquakes and their magnitude,” experts said.
