A tractor factory may be built in the city of Giorok in Arad County after an investment of 400 million euros, the city’s mayor says. Initially, the investment was announced in the spring of 2022 by representatives of the Austrian company, who said that the first tractor will leave the assembly line in October 2023, but work on the assembly shops will begin only this year, writes Agerpres.
The commune of Giorots has 3,800 inhabitants and is located 23 km from Arad.
The mayor of the commune says that the documentation for issuing a construction permit is ongoing. 600 people could end up working at the factory.
“In the meantime, Syn Trac has managed to set up a company in Romania and has informed us that they are currently working on the documentation that will be submitted to us in order to be able to issue a building permit. Originally, it was expected that the actual work would start this spring, but it still takes time to finalize all the paperwork. We hope that the works will start this year, as the investors promised, because this investment will contribute to the development not only of our commune, but also of the county,” Gioroc commune mayor Corneliu Popi said on Tuesday, Agerpres quoted. – Morodan.
The mayor said the factory would operate in an industrial park being developed in Giorroc, where three other foreign investments have been announced.
“There will also be a regional medicine warehouse, which is at the largest stage of implementation, a canning plant and a freight transport service. The industrial park will have approximately 15 hectares,” the mayor also noted.
In April 2022, the head of the consortium of companies that will work in Gioroc, Patrick Monak, said that the future plant will assemble about 400 tractors annually, which will be sold, in particular, in Eastern Europe. According to him, the first tractor will roll off the assembly line in October 2023.
“Production in Romania will be aimed at all countries of Eastern Europe and the Middle East. In this year (2022 – no), we will also develop a project for a plant of trailers and hydraulic mechanisms and gearboxes. At the first stage, there will be more than a hundred jobs, and in four to five years we will reach 600 jobs. The investment will amount to more than 400 million euros, on an area of ten hectares. We already have an order for 1,500 tractors, 40 of them for Romania,” said Patrick Monak.
He noted that the same company produces about 400 tractors a year in Austria, it employs 85 employees, taking into account that the plant is robotic.
The owner of Syn Trac, Stephan Putz, stated at the same press conference that the tractor model, which will be assembled in Gioroc, can reach a speed of 110 kilometers per hour, has unique working capabilities, using patented technologies.
“For 30 years I have been creating cars that are now available all over the world. I’m also a bit of an inventor and I’ve found something new with these tractors that are unique. For example, in these cars, the engine is not in the front, as in all cars, but under the floor, and this gives us the opportunity to connect to the mechanisms in the front and in the back. In 60 seconds, the transition from agriculture to communal work, forest clearing or other activities is carried out,” said Stefan Putz.
