Fighting broke out on the Afghan-Pakistani border

Armed clashes erupted on Monday at the Afghan-Pakistani border near the Torkham checkpoint, the Hasht-e Subh newspaper reported, citing sources in the Afghan province of Nangarhar.

According to them, skirmishes between the Taliban forces, who seized power in Afghanistan in 2021, and Pakistani border guards began early in the morning and continue. The cause of the collision is still unknown.

For its part, the Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported on Monday that the clashes were initiated by the Afghans. No casualties have been reported yet.

On Sunday, the Afghan television channel TOLONEnews reported that the Taliban decided to suspend traffic through the Torkham checkpoint due to the fact that the Pakistani side did not fulfill its obligations.

The Taliban representatives did not specify what kind of obligations they are talking about. However, unconfirmed media reports link the tightening of Afghanistan’s Islamist regime to Pakistan’s unannounced ban on Afghan patients from entering Pakistan for medical treatment.
