Christian Atsu, a Ghanaian footballer for Turkish club Hatayspor, was found dead under the rubble of his building in Hatay, southern Turkey, his agent said on Saturday, according to the private Turkish news agency DHA.

“Atsu’s lifeless body was found under the rubble. His phone was also found,” said his agent Murat Uzunmehmet.

Christian Atsu had a ticket to leave Turkey hours before the earthquake, but changed his mind after scoring the winning goal in the first league match, News.ro reports.

Christian Atsu gave his team a 1-0 win against Kasimpasa the day before the earthquake. Atsu scored in the 90th+7th minute. Christian Atsu was 31 years old.

On Monday, February 6, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck central Turkey and northwestern Syria, killing tens of thousands of people.
