At the beginning of each year TomTom, the specialist in navigation and traffic solutions, publishes the TomTom Traffic Index, a list of the level of congestion in cities around the world last year. In 2022, the study looked at no less than 389 cities from 56 countries and 6 continents, and the results are dire.
Indeed, the study concluded that travel times had increased dramatically in no less than 62% of the cities studied, leading to increased time lost in traffic jams, excessive fuel consumption and polluting emissions. For the first time, TomTom has assessed road traffic in each city and assessed the cost of driving in terms of time, money and the environmental impact of travel.
