Municipality of Athens: Athens traditionally celebrates

With the folklore festival at Varvakeio, traditional events and music in the central parts of the city, the municipality of Athens has kept the tradition of Tsiknopeptis alive.

Three years later, Athens is again filled with delicious smells, music, joy and celebration! From early morning, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens began to set the tone, welcoming residents and visitors to the Varvakeio Agora, where the pulse of Tsiknopepti beats traditionally for Athens.

From 11 am, hundreds of Athenians were at the largest metropolitan market, where butchers roasted and offered 350 kg of meat, in the atmosphere of a real folk feast. There was also the bohemian songwriter Pantelis Ambazis with his guitar and the band “Anotati Zambetiki” in a popular program with elements of jazz and rock, featuring popular singer Marina Manolaku.

The mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, during his usual visit, helped with baking and exchanged greetings with passers-by and professionals. In his statement, he said: “From the “heart” of the best market in the city, Varvakeyo, begins the carnival rhythm, fun and joy that we, residents and guests of the city, so need. Happy birthday everyone!”

This year’s Halloween celebration in Athens started today, in Kotsia Square, with the Cultural Society of Orchestral Art BAKHAI, which presented the Thracian act “Bey”. Then, with the traditional imitation of carnival dances, he crossed the Varvakeio and, descending the Aiolou, reached Monastiraki, where he handed over the baton to the Greek Music Workshop of the Municipality of Athens, so that the celebration could continue there, with Manolis Skoulas and Dora Luazou.
