Corona virus: 109 deaths in the last week – increase in flu cases

109 people died corona virus during the week of February 6-12, 2023, according to the National Public Health Organization (EODY). Last week, 106 deaths were registered..

According to EODY, the number of imports per WITHovoid-19 as well as new intubations showed a decrease.

In particular, the number of patients with infection WITHovoid-19 hospitalized intubated 117, up from 125 a week ago.

As far as flu subscriptions go, there was an increase in the community compared to the previous week.

Influenza syndromes (regardless of pathogen)

  • There was an increase in the community compared to the previous week.

  • The increase affected ages 15-64 and ≥65 years.

SARS-CoV2 virus – Covid-19 infection

  • The positivity in all samples tested was at the same level as the previous week.

  • The number of hospitalizations for Covid-19 has decreased.

  • The number of new intubations has decreased.

  • The number of intubated patients with Covid-19 infection is 117.

  • 109 people died with a mean age of 83 years (49 to 98 years).

  • The BA.5 sub-option is the most common Omicron sub-option.

  • Sub-option BQ.1.1. is the most frequent sub-variant of BA.5 with an increasing trend.

  • The most common BA.2 sub-variant remains BA.2.75 (49%), followed by the CH.1.1 sub-variant (29%) and the XBB.1.5 sub-variant (19%).

  • Viral load surveillance in urban wastewater showed an increase in SARSCoV2 circulation in 5 out of 10 areas tested.

  • Flu positivity in the community has not changed.

  • 2 new severe cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza with ICU hospitalization were registered, while no new deaths were registered in the week from 06/2023.

  • From the 40th week of 2022 to the 6th week of 2023, 61 patients with influenza were hospitalized in the intensive care unit, and 19 deaths were recorded.

  • During the same period, 266 influenza virus-positive specimens (sentinel specimens and hospital specimens) were reported at two influenza reference centers, of which 261 (98%) were type A strains and 5 (2%) were type B strains.

  • Of the 260 subtypes of type A strains, 246 (95%) were classified as subtype A (H3N2) and 14 (5%) as subtype A (H1N1) pdm09

Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV

  • Positivity showed a decrease.
