Israeli media: Netanyahu government “does not rule out” gas supplies to Europe through Turkey

According to exclusive Israeli media reports, Turkish President Erdogan discussed with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen the export of Israeli natural gas to Europe via Turkey.

Senior Turkish officials, President Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told Eli Cohen that “we are interested in working together on gas. We have the capacity and we can help you export natural gas to Europe,” the same information says.

In response, the Israeli Foreign Minister did not rule it out: “We will look into this issue.”

The Turks also called for long-term Israeli-Turkish gas cooperation during the Lapid-Bennett administration, which for the most part avoided discussing the issue. Israeli media are reporting that now that a new government has taken over, the Turks are exploring a deal with Netanyahu.

The visit of an Israeli delegation led by the foreign ministers of the new Netanyahu government comes against the backdrop of massive humanitarian and economic destruction that Turkey has suffered since the deadly earthquake.

Israel was one of the first countries to rush to the rescue, with Eli Cohen tweeting: “Relationships between countries are important to regional stability and we continue to work to strengthen them. Friends are especially important in difficult times, and in this difficult time, Israel stands by the side of the Turkish people.”
