According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the average net salary in December 2022 was 4,398 lei, which is 11.8% higher than in December 2021. If we look at inflation, it amounted to 16.3%. Therefore, the workers had to lose.

The highest salaries were in:

1. Production of coking products and crude oil processing, respectively 11,540 lei (compared to 10,534 lei in December 2021).

2. In IT, they amounted to 10,354 lei (from 9,094 lei).

3. Production of crude oil and natural gas: 9,891 lei (from 9,388 lei)

4. Production of tobacco products: 8,458 lei (from 6,471 lei)

5. Financial intermediation: 8,874 lei (from 7,674 lei)

We remind you that income tax is not paid in IT. It should be noted that many work in PFA and micro-enterprises, so they are not reflected in the INS data.

If we look at another sector with objects, for example, construction, then the salary there has increased to 4,042 lei (net) from 3,605 lei. We will also see an increase in 2023, because from January 1, the minimum gross salary in this sector has increased to 4,000 lei.

*They do not pay income tax, health care contributions and, optionally, Tier II pension. The same is the case in the food industry and agriculture, except that the minimum wage there is 3,000 lei.

The lowest salaries in:

  • Horeca: 2415 lei net (from 1922 lei).
  • Production of clothing: 2361 lei
  • Tanning and decoration of hides; production of tourist and leather goods, harnesses and shoes; preparation and dyeing of fur: 2828 lei.
  • Woodworking, production of wood and cork products, except for furniture; production of straw and other woven plant materials: 2,898 lei.

*There are Christmas allowances in December and these are included in the figures above.

How the salaries of state employees increased

Note that in 2023, we will see a greater increase in wages in the budget sector, following the resolution issued at the end of last year. In addition, since 2023, budget e-tishniks have no income tax.

If we look at the data for 2022, then in December we will see:

  • Public administration and defense; social insurance from the state system: 5396 lei (from 5131 lei)
  • Education: 3857 lei (from 3680 lei)
  • Medical and social assistance: 4,249 lei (from 4,166 lei)
