The New Democracy: Strong Support at the Center

One 24 hours after transfer Spiro Karanikola in ND, Maximos Palace announced two more leaders from PASOK, with the announcement of their transfer, accompanied by photos with the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The reason is primarily in the international Eleftheria Phtaklakis, who served as Deputy Regional Governor of the South Aegean and, prior to leaving PASOK, headed the island’s policy department. Ms. Ftaklakis, leaving PASOK, denounced the party leadership for “establishment mentality and Byzantism.” Now, from the ranks of the New Democracy, he will demand a cross in the Dodecanese. In her first statement as leader of the National Democratic Party, she stated that “it is of the utmost importance to meet the forces that believe in the progress, development and European path of Greece.”

According to the information, more PASOK executive transfer announcements are expected next week.

The other transfer announced on Friday was his Apostolos Spyropoulos, son of PASOK founder and former minister Robert Spyropoulos. Mr. Spyropoulos, who recently stepped down as PASOK’s political sector coordinator, left his mark on the party and its leadership, moving to New Democracy and will be a candidate for deputies from Arcadia. N.D. announcing his candidacy, he said he was a young man with a “professional business career and rich political activity in PASOK” who “decided to join the efforts of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the ND. for a modern, European Greece, with growth, youth perspectives and social dividends for all.”

His three consecutive executive transfers PASOK in N.D. they reflect the strategy of the ruling party, which wants to show that the umbilical cord with the space of the Center not only did not break due to the wiretapping case, but is still strong. Yes, according to “K”, the announcements of PASOK leaders will continue next week and will be in the same logic: that is, middle managers who recently left PASOK – KINAL and are allies of New Democracy. Many see this tactic as a repeat of what happened to the Pots, which, after all, N.D. absorbed the party of Stavros Theodorakis. “He who sees and compares two cases is mistaken,” says an experienced party source, since on the one hand PASOK is not a river, on the other it is ND. it does not want to assimilate another space, but to send a clear signal that it is constantly talking to the central space. In fact, given that quite a few people have left PASOK-KINAL lately, it is highly likely that the transfers will continue until the election. Government sources add to “K” that the majority of PASOK executives approached the Maximos executives, and not vice versa, indicating a dynamic trend leading up to the elections.

Party balance

The shift away from PASOK may be the key to building self-confidence, but it must be in the right dosage so as not to create problems for right-wing audiences who somehow resent the “PASOK overdose” of the Mitsotakis government. Maximos knows this balance, so transfers will be targeted to prefectures deemed appropriate. Next year, and after a few more announcements from PASOK next week, the bulk of the ballots will come in, which of course will include blue heads to push the pendulum back.
