On Friday, Russia carried out a “massive attack” on extremely important energy facilities of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow reported on Saturday.
In its daily report, the Russian ministry did not specify which power plants it said had been hit, Reuters and Agerpres noted. Moscow also claimed that the attack blocked the supply of arms and ammunition from abroad by rail to the militant group in Ukraine.
On Friday evening, the Ukrainian army said that Russian forces fired more than 100 missiles and carried out 12 airstrikes and 20 bombings. Kyiv announced that it destroyed 61 Russian cruise missiles.
Energy Minister of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko said that Russia hit electrical installations in six regions with missiles and drones, which led to a power outage in most of the country.
Russia has repeatedly attacked civilian infrastructure far behind the front lines, leaving millions of Ukrainians without electricity, heat or water for days in the dead of winter.
