As Ms. Sakellaropoulou emphasizes, our rescuers, by preventing repeated shocks or further collapse of destroyed buildings, “prove by actions, not words, that the awareness of someone else’s pain catalyzes the boundaries between people and makes distinctions between states, no matter how serious they may be, put them aside in the name of solidarity and compassion.”

He also notes that “the heroes of EMAK, fighting among the ruins in the depths of the East, arouse the admiration of the whole world and make us proud.”
