European Day 112: new digital campaign of the Ministry of Climate Crises and Civil Protection

The Ministry of Climate Crises and Civil Protection is launching a new digital campaign with two videos informing about the work and importance of the 112 service in emergencies and incidents on the occasion of the European Environment Day. 112.

Equal access for all, without exception, to reliable information and instructions on self-protection against risks and natural disasters is a top priority for the ministry, the statement said.

β€œIn this context, the campaign videos have been designed and implemented taking into account the requirements of the times, as well as the special characteristics of many population groups, so that they can better know how the incoming and outgoing part of the emergency communication Service – 112 works,” the ministry said in a statement.

As for the incoming part, 112 is the only number we can call in an emergency when we need urgent help, wherever we are in Greece and the EU.

On the outgoing side, 112 warns us in cases of danger or emergency near the area we are in, so that we can take self-protection measures or take any action to ensure safety.

β€œ112 is the number that is next to a citizen in any emergency. An extremely useful 24/7 civil protection tool to alert/inform, prevent and prepare citizens for potential risks associated with severe weather, natural or man-made disasters and emergencies that threaten people’s lives,” said, among other things, Minister for Climate Crises and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianidis on the occasion of European Day 112 and the ministry’s new campaign.

As he pointed out, the importance of the 112 service is twofold, as it not only allows citizens to be immediately informed, but at the same time acts as a link between citizens who need immediate assistance and our country’s emergency response services. β€œThus, a strengthened foundation is created for the interoperability and effectiveness of the Civil Protection Mechanism,” he said, adding: β€œNow 112 becomes an even more valuable tool as the risks and challenges arising from the new reality of the climate crisis become more and more serious. and more frequent, more and more intense, affecting every aspect of our daily lives.”

β€œIn this context, at the Ministry of Climate Crises and Civil Protection, we work daily to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the 112 service with one goal: to increase resilience and protect the most valuable commodity – human life. Caring for all citizens, without exception, without discrimination,” concluded Mr. Stylianidis.
