The years with temperatures below -35 degrees were 1942, 1929, 1985, 1963, 1987, 1893, 1954 and 2005. The winters of 1963, 1942 and 1985 brought many cold records that still stand today.

Absolute minimum temperatures were recorded under favorable conditions of severe frosts, when masses of cold arctic continental air entered the territory of our country.

The last episode with a minimum below -33 degrees was eight years ago, when in early January it was -35 degrees in Intorsura Buzăului and -33 in Brasov. The absolutely exceptional minimum was on March 11, 2005, when Obarsia Lotruluy had -33 degrees, the absolute minimum for the third month of the year.

The absolute minimum in the country is -38.5 C, recorded in Boda on January 25, 1942. On January 24, at 2:00 p.m., it was -21.4 C, and at 8:00 p.m., it was -29.8 C.

The absolute record occurred in the morning of January 25, but it warmed up significantly in the afternoon and the temperature rose above -10 degrees, and the maximum was reached at the end of the day, when the temperature rose above -6 degrees.
