Bids submitted to build three new green hospitals

With the participation of most of the country’s major construction groups, bids were submitted yesterday for construction of three new green hospitals who will build it Stavros Niarchos Foundation. These are three separate projects with a total estimated budget of 400 million euros, which are planned to be used as international public hospitals.

Considering their size, the interest generated by them was significant. Thus, TERNA, Avax and the Aktor-Mytileneos-Webuild joint venture are bidding for these contracts. The latter is the successor to the scheme of the Italian construction company Impregilo. In contrast, Intrakat did not participate in the tender in question.

Their construction, with a budget of 400 million euros, is financed by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

On the basis of the strategic nuclear forces project, they are going to build one new university children’s hospital in Thessalonikiand two general hospitals in Komotini and Sparta. The choice of districts was made taking into account that they do not have access to health care. All new units will be bioclimatic in nature and the buildings will be highly energy efficient. The new buildings bear the signature of the Italian architect Renzo Piano, whose office also ran the Cultural Center in the Faliro Delta.

According to the SNF, the design, construction and operation of hospitals will include sustainable development principles based on the LEED standard, will be equipped with modern medical diagnostic equipment and will have only single and double rooms. At the same time, the goal of new infrastructures is to introduce digital functions in terms of clinical services. Initially, the submission of financial proposals was scheduled for the last weeks of 2022, but after appropriate extensions, they were finally submitted yesterday.

The donation of the three hospitals is part of the SNF-funded Initiative for Health program with a total budget of over 750 million euros. In addition to the three new units, the design, construction and equipping of two new buildings at the Attikon University General Hospital, as well as support for the reconstruction of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) 2 and its Emergency Department of O Evangelismos Hospital, are also underway.
