Lithuania will hand over 36 portable anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine that can effectively counter Iranian-made drones used by Russia to attack the country, Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas said at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Oleksiy Reznikov on Thursday. , Kyiv Independent reports.
According to Anusauskas, 15 Ukrainian instructors have already been trained to teach soldiers how to use these anti-aircraft systems.
Anusauskas arrived in Ukraine on February 8 for a two-day visit to meet with Reznikov.
“We discussed new steps regarding Lithuania’s assistance to the Ukrainian armed forces. In particular, regarding armaments and military training,” Reznikov wrote on Facebook.
The Lithuanian minister did not name the systems, but he may have been referring to Sweden’s L-70 anti-aircraft systems, as their delivery was announced in the latest aid package on January 19. At the time, Anusauskas did not specify the number of weapons to be delivered, saying that Lithuania would send “dozens” of such weapons to Ukraine.
Lithuania was one of nine European countries that signed the Tallinn Commitment on January 19, a commitment to provide Ukraine with the offensive capabilities needed to liberate all of Ukraine’s territory currently occupied by Russia.
Recently, a Lithuanian campaign raised 6 million euros in less than a week for the purchase of multi-purpose tactical radars for Ukraine.
