From the wisdom of the ancestors to the Cosmos, Delos shines again

Last May, Delos again became, if only for a few hours, the center of the whole world. What was once the island’s ancient slave market hosted a spectacular concert by the European Union Youth Orchestra, broadcast to millions of television viewers, with soloists Ukrainian violinist Diana Tysenko and Greek lyre player Sokratis Sinopoulos. They performed Vivaldi’s The Four (Indefinite) Seasons. It was the idea of the World Human Forum called “Alpha Mission – Delos”, which had a worldwide radiation. The idea was simple: rising sea levels had begun to erode the shores of the island, the sacred center of the ancient world. So there has never been a more perfect place to send an SOS signal to save the Earth and make a call so that the wisdom of the ancestors “meet” with the technologies that humanity has developed today. The initiative was named Alpha after Delos-born Apollo and Artemis, as well as the Apollo mission that put the first man on the moon, and the Artemis mission that will take the first woman in 2025. to the moon. Alpha is also the generation that will be called upon to fight climate change more poignantly than ever before. The Franco-German TV channel ARTE, the Federation of Cultural Organizations Europa Nostra, the Hellenic Space Center, the National Research Center for Natural Sciences Demokritos, the Hellenic Cultural Foundation and the Athens Concert Hall have joined forces with the World Humanitarian Forum. for this difficult task and, of course, the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades.

Diana Tisenko performed Bach at the event.

President and co-founder of the World Human Forum Alexandra Mitsotakis, astrophysicist, planetary scientist and director of research at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Paris Athina Coustenis, philosopher Patrick Viveret and director of the French School of Athens Véronique Sankowski took part in an open discussion on the collective search for a meaning of a future worthy of future generations. Musically, the evening ended with an unexpected performance by Diana Tisenko with works by Bach. What have we learned from this event? How Greece, each time combining its great archaeological excavations with universal requests, carries out the most important diplomacy.
