The Premier League, after a long investigation, accused Manchester City of violating financial rules, writes BBC Sport.
Manchester City did not comply with the rule of financial fair play
The forum referred the club to the commission regarding alleged violations between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.
In 2020, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned City’s two-year ban from European competition after UEFA ruled that City had committed “serious breaches” of Financial Fair Play rules between 2012 and 2016.
In a press release, the Premier League said City had breached rules requiring them to provide “accurate financial information which gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial situation”.
This information includes the club’s income, including sponsorship and operating expenses.
Other violations related to rules that required full disclosure of “trainers’ compensation.” This applied to the 2009/10 – 2012/13 seasons, when Roberto Mancini was on the technical bench.
Last season, City won their sixth Premier League title since taking over Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008.
