
All services, snowplows and human resources of the Municipality of Athens will be in full readiness from Sunday morning, so that any problems caused by the bad weather “Barbara”, which, according to the forecasts of the National Meteorological Service, can be eliminated immediately and effectively, it is expected to hit Attica in the next 24 hours.
At a wide meeting held on Friday afternoon under the leadership of the Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, a detailed plan was drawn up by the municipality for the coming days: it aims to protect vulnerable people who are either on the street (homeless, drug addicts) or in need of help around the house, but also in an effort to keep central roads open for unhindered access to hospitals, clinics and other infrastructure critical to the functioning of the state.
During bad weather in all seven municipal districts of the Municipality of Athens, snowplows and workers will be at key locations to deal with any problems in the neighborhoods.
Particular attention, according to the plan, is given to the points where, in previous relevant weather conditions, the biggest problems were presented, such as Ano Kipseli, Poligono, Gizi, Lycabettus, etc.
Vehicles and staff from the Green and Electric Departments will also be on hand to intervene if trees fall or the city’s lighting network is damaged.
At the subway entrances and where necessary, the cleaning department will pour the necessary amount of salt to cope with frosty phenomena.
The Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens activates its social structures and services around the clock and is ready to provide safe housing for people stranded on the street.

At the same time, the Street Work Units of the Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens (KYADA), consisting of two social workers and a nurse, will work during the day and night.
In particular, multidisciplinary field intervention teams in six shifts (from 06.00-14.00, 14.00-22.00, 22.00-06.00) will be on the streets of the city, urging our homeless fellow citizens to find a warm bed in the Dormitory of the Municipal Multipurpose Center for the Homeless.
At the same time, blankets, jackets, hot tea, raisins, toast and full meals will be distributed to those who find it difficult to move to heated rooms.
The Call Center of the Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens will be open 24/7 (210-5246515) to receive phone messages from citizens about places where there are homeless people who need help. Calls for relevant reports can also be made to the four-digit contact number of the Municipality of Athens, 1595.
Early on Sunday morning, a heated room will open at the Friendship Botanical Club (Kozanis 4) to accommodate our unprotected brethren. If there is an increased need to accommodate our homeless who want to temporarily protect themselves from the cold, but do not want to go to other structures, such as the Multifunctional Center for the Homeless, an additional place will be allocated.
Elderly people, people living alone, as well as people with disabilities and limited mobility can contact the Help at Home service daily from 8:00-20:00 for the supply of necessary goods, medicines and essentials. . Applications can be sent by phone: 2103428745.
