For Mitsubishi, 2023 will be a year of rebirth. In 2020, the Japanese brand entered a period of doubt and announced a quick departure from the European continent. Since then, of course, everything has changed, but the future is still uncertain. Mitsubishi is finally staying in Europe, thanks to a lot of help from its partners Nissan and especially Renault, which should help it revive. The current range is quite limited and the bestseller Outlander is no longer part of the catalogue. Only city car Space Star, SUV Eclipse Cross and pickup L200. Pajero, Carisma and Lancer of the past years no longer exist. This year the manufacturer sells two Renault clone models: the Colt (a redesigned Clio V) and ASX (Redesigned Captur). Onslaught of new products to hopefully overcome weak 2021 sales: 3430 registrations only (figures for 2022 are not reported).

Renault to the aid of the Mitsubishi soldier

or this synergy became possibleit’s because the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. Created in 1999 by Renault and Nissan, Mitsubishi was added to the equation in 2016. At that time, the brand was in great difficulties and sought to rethink itself. So the provision of Renault Captur and Clio was a great boon. A few years later, the first Mitsubishi clone, the ASX (Active Sport Crossover), was introduced in September. It is scheduled to arrive at the dealership in March, he signs Mitsubishi’s return to the B segment. It is the largest in France, among which B-type SUVs are represented 281,000 registrations in 2022 ! Its hybrid variant produced by Renault and its 5-year warranty may allow it to exist and make its way in Europe. Although we have a weak Mitsubishi remains a reference brand in Eastern Europe and the Balkansespecially in Greece.

After the ASX, the Colt city car opens

The second model of this partnership, which will allow Mitsubishi to double the number of models in Europe (from 2 to 4), will be Colt city car. The older generation we saw in Europe was assembled in the Netherlands and was based on the Smart Forfour. So the “Colt” name returns as a rebadged model, this time at Renault! Mitsubishi has just released the first image, and the Clio trick is! She will present a grille and slightly different headlights, but that should be it! As in the ASX, the cabin should not change anything, apart from adopting a logo with three diamonds instead of a diamond. The photo of the stern was not distributed, so it will be needed wait a little longer ! On a technical level, Colt will offer 91 and 140 strong Clio gasoline unitsas well as its variant 145 horsepower hybrid. This new Colt will be presented in the first half of 2023for end of year marketing…
