Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said in his address to the nation on Wednesday evening that he would make changes in directors and staff if necessary to ensure compliance with the law, writes News.ro. He clarified that the heads of customs were dismissed and several searches were conducted.
“Today is a fruitful day for our country – a fruitful day in opposition to those who are now trying to weaken Ukraine. We will not allow anyone to weaken our state.
I thank all officials who demonstrated the power of the law and the power of the state today. I am grateful to the Government of Ukraine for the prompt response of the employees. In particular, the heads of customs were dismissed today. I was informed that disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against some of those dismissed. Unfortunately, in some areas, the only way to guarantee legitimacy is to change leaders along with institutional change. We change as much as necessary so that people do not abuse their power.
Today, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Economic Security and the Prosecutor’s Office conducted dozens of searches and other actions in various regions and against various individuals as part of open criminal proceedings. I do not want to make political assessments that these individuals can use in the interests of their defense. But from the reaction in society, I see that people approve of the actions of law enforcement officers. Therefore, the movement towards justice is tangible. Justice will be ensured,” Zelenskyi said.
“Any domestic supply, any acquisition, everything must be absolutely as clean and honest as the external supply for our defense. Those who prevent this will not remain in the relevant structures,” he added.
Zelenskyi also thanked the police for their actions after it turned out that some girls were abused in Ukraine: “And today I want to thank the employees of the National Police of Ukraine who quickly reacted to the shameful facts that became known yesterday. .. Cruel treatment of girls. Criminal proceedings have been initiated. These are the first arrests of criminals. Procedural actions are ongoing. There will be no place for violence in Ukraine.”
“The enemy is now trying to win at least something in order to show on the anniversary of the invasion that Russia has a chance”
Volodymyr Zelenskyi also noted that Austria condemns Russia’s aggression and supports Ukraine. “Today was also quite an active day for diplomacy – the President of Austria visited our country together with several ministers of the Austrian government. There are significant intergovernmental agreements and there is a clear understanding that Austria will not be neutral in the defense of life and Europe. There is a clear position of Austria, which condemns Russia’s aggression and the desire to further increase the pressure on Russia for the purpose of terror. I thank the President of Austria, representatives of Austrian municipalities for being with Ukraine.”
Zelensky also said that almost a year after the start of the war, Russia is trying to “at least win something” to show off the year. “Of course, today we had several operational meetings with our army. A certain increase in the offensive actions of the occupiers is observed on the front – in the east of our country. The situation is getting worse. I am grateful to all our soldiers who are ready for this and show the resilience that Ukraine needs. All this period, from February to February, I was strong. The enemy is trying to win at least something now, to show on the anniversary of the invasion that Russia has a chance. In such conditions, we must all be united, focused primarily on national interests and, as a result, resist. I am sure that we will remain so,” he added.
