
2022 is the first year in which all-electric vehicle registrations in the EU will exceed one million units, an increase of 28% compared to 2021. And Romania reached a record: more than 11,600 electric cars, an increase of 83%, it shows data from ACEA.
For the entire year 2022, fully electric cars reached a record share in the EU – 12.1%, gasoline – 36.4%, diesel – 16.4%.
A total of 1.12 million electric vehicles were registered in the EU last year, compared to 877,000 in 2021. Two countries had huge numbers: Germany (471,000) and France (203,000). The third place was taken by Sweden (95 thousand), followed by the Netherlands (73 thousand) and Italy (49 thousand).
Several markets exceeded 30,000 units: Spain, Belgium, Austria and Denmark.
11,600 electric cars are registered in Romania, 4,700 in Hungary, 1,000 in Bulgaria, and 11,300 in Poland. Austria finished with more than 34,000.
Among major markets, Sweden saw the largest increase of 65%, while Italy fell by 26%.
Two non-EU countries performed very well: the United Kingdom (267,000 units) and Norway (138,000), noting that growth in the Scandinavian country was lower than in previous years at 22%.
In gasoline cars, the decrease was 13% at the EU level, from 3.86 million to 3.37 million. Romania saw an increase of 11%, to 53,000 cars. The largest percentage increase in gasoline cars was observed in Bulgaria (18 points), and the largest decline in Finland (-37%).
For diesel, the drop was 20%, from 1.89 million to 1.52 million, while in Romania the drop was 19%, to 16,500 vehicles. Bulgaria was the only market where diesel car registrations increased, while Cyprus saw the biggest drop (-61%). Among the large markets in France, diesel cars fell the most (-32%).
