Two fishermen who allegedly quarreled with him and hit him with a wooden pole in the sea on January 24, 2021 in Eretria are being tried by the Joint Jury for the murder of former minister Sifis Valirakis.
In its will (number 16/2023), the Chalkis Criminal Council orders the transfer of two fishermen on charges of joint premeditated murder and in a calm state, adopting a similar prosecutor’s proposal, which asked the defendants to be tried for a criminal act through the fault of the 79-year-old politician.
“You approached Joseph Valirakis, who was traveling on his boat “MINA”, and, blocking the course, making dangerous maneuvers with your fishing boat around his inflatable boat, argued with him, and then with a wooden pole hit him in the upper part of his body for at least 2- 3 times, causing him to fall into the sea against his will.” refers to the case file against the two defendants, who then apparently sailed away in their boat, not caring about the former minister who fell into the water.
And attributed to them: “… as far as you know, Siphis Valirakis, who was at sea, came into contact with the propeller and hydrofoils of a fishing boat that was at his stern, as well as with its blunt surfaces, as a result of which, in addition to crushing on the head, left elbow and left index finger on one side, on the other side bruises on the head, neck, right arm and right forearm“.
Sifis Valirakis Family Lawyers, Zoe Constantinopoulou, Nikos Constantinopoulos, Vassilis Lembesis, Kostas Papadakis, and Manolis Fotakis, in a press release they issued for the will, state:
“In the will, issued the day after the anniversary of the murder of Sifis Valirakis and brought to us today, the accused perpetrators of the murder are brought before the United Jury for the crime of homicide together and in peace. mind, in accordance with and with the previous also with reference to the proposal of the Prosecution on the same charge. The Thoughts of Parliament contain a detailed and reasoned retraction of the statements of the two defendants, with which they are trying to dismiss the charge.“.
They also emphasize:
“Once again it’s sealeda directing court that from a number of findings, evidence and elements of the case file that we have documented and evaluated over the course of 2 years, it has been established that the death of the late Siphis Valirakis was not the result of an “accident”, since some well-wishers tried to pretend, but murder, those. manslaughter by intent and with direct malicious intent, with the guilty – the natural culprits of the 2 defendants, who acted together, in full agreement, and retroactively also jointly try to shake off responsibility.
On the basis of these facts contained in the case file and highlighted in the accompanying will, in addition, very serious questions arise about the replacement of the preventive measure imposed on the defendants just a month after its appointment, despite the seriousness of the evidence and the offense and despite the emerging danger of their actions.
We express our satisfaction with the completion of this stage witha to send the accused to court for premeditated and joint murder, in a calm state of mind.
At the same time, we express our determination to remain vigilant until the perpetrators are irrevocably condemned and all the circumstances of the murder and attempts to cover it up are fully clarified, that is, until the truth is fully revealed and justice is administered.
Just as we repeated with the announcement of the family and its defenders, which we released the day before yesterday, on the anniversary of the murder.”
