Portugal’s coach for 8 seasons, Fernando Santos was sacked after the 2022 World Cup following a surprise exit by Morocco.

Since then, the 68-year-old coach held talks with several teams, but eventually chose to coach the Polish national team.

The national team of Poland passed the group stage of the 2022 World Cup together with Argentina, but was eliminated in the 1/8 finals by France, the finalist of this tournament. The Poles broke up with Czeslaw Mikhnevich.

Moreover, the selector who left Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar also made several statements at the official presentation where he wanted to emphasize that it is the team that matters, not the individuals.

“The team is more important than the players. This is exactly what a team means, a group of players, each with their own mentality, with their own individuality.

As the coach of the national team, I have to bring everyone together. That’s what I’ve always done throughout my career. (…)

I have a saying that I use a lot: I only know the stars in the sky. And I never saw a single star. The team should be a group of stars.” – he said according to the Record.
