Why Bill Gates got involved with… cows

The billionaires of this world have taught us strange investments, moreover, they can usually “predict” from their experience whether they will invest their money in something profitable, no matter how strange it may sound. This rule is confirmed Bill Gates who decided to invest in a startup from Australia, whose goal is to reduce methane emissions from… belching cows.

The Microsoft co-founder is known to be actively involved in the fight against climate change and has previously spoken out about environmental impact of meat production.

Ouch cows, goats and deer they produce methane when their stomachs digest tough plant fibers (such as from the grass they eat). The animals then release this gas, usually through their mouths. In turn, methane most common greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide.

Perth, Australia based tech startup Rumin8 is developing food supplement for animals – which is synthetically made from red algae – to stop the accumulation of gas. According to studies, when cows eat algae, methane emissions are reduced.

This particular company recently announced that it recently received funding $12 millionwith most of that money coming from Breakthrough Energy Venture, founded by Bill Gates in 2015.

The same startup previously received funding from Amazon boss Mr. Jeff Bezosand co-founder of Alibaba Jack Ma.

“We are particularly pleased with the reception we have received from the foundations for this. changing of the climate Worldwide. There is a real desire to fund solutions for animal gut methane emissions,” said Rumin8 CEO David Messina.

This problem seems to really worry people. Last October New Zealand proposed taxing greenhouse gas emissions produced by animals. The world’s first bill of its kind invites farmers to start pay tax for their…animal gases from 2025.

Atmospheric methane levels ‘hit’ in 2019 write downsince it was 2.5 times more than in the pre-industrial era.

Scientists are concerned that methane is indeed a powerful greenhouse gas. Individual methane molecules have stronger warming effect in the atmosphere from individual CO2 molecules.
