
The Minister of Finance has left a window for new interventions in support of citizens, Christos Staikourascommenting on the publication that the government is considering the possibility of paying an Easter gift, about 250-300 euros, for the poor and pensioners.
“It seems that fiscal space is being created or is starting to be created for some additional interventions that the Prime Minister will prioritize among the many needs of society,” Mr. Staikouras said in an interview with SKAI.
He added that a number of measures have already been taken, which the citizen now sees in his wallet in the amount of about 3 billion euros.
He also said that in 2022 the economy performed better than budgeted, and the good course of the Greek economy allows the government to help households and businesses, but there are no inexhaustible resources to help.
Regarding the prospect of canceling the claim fee and returning retroactive benefits to pensioners, the Minister of Finance noted that there are “priorities that are taken into account, but these measures cannot be taken all together.”
Mr. Staikouras called the third consecutive increase in the minimum wage “bold and realistic”.
As for inflation, he estimates it will reach 5% in 2023.
Finally, the minister expressed his concern about the growth that has shifted from energy to the food sector, which, he said, concerns the whole of Europe.
