The much more experienced Croatian Vekic (26 years old, 64 WTA) beat Fruhvirtova (82 WTA) after two hours and eight minutes of play with a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
The player from the Czech Republic lost the first set, but recovered effectively, won the second set and led with a break in the decisive match (2-1). However, Linda lost her momentum and won only one game by the end of the match.
Linda trains at the Patrik Muratoglu Academy, and the French coach has said several times about Frukhvirtova that she will be one of the best players in the world.

- In the quarters, Donna Vekic will meet Aryna Sabalenko, the fifth favorite for the Grand Slam in Melbourne.
- Thanks to her performance at the Australian Open, Frukhvirtova will move up 31 positions in the WTA rankings, to 51st place (the best ranking in her career). And Vekic will see an impressive jump in the world rankings, now ranked 34th.
Australian Open 2023 will be held from January 16 to 29. The reigning champions are Ashley Barty (now retired) and Rafael Nadal (eliminated in the second round).
