Stephanos Tsitsipas (the third favorite) reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open on Sunday, the Greek defeated him after a spectacular five-set match (6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3) Yannick Sinner, apprentice Darren Cahill.
The third favorite in Melbourne, Stephanos was morally strong in the key moments of the first two sets, and the scoreboard smiled on the Greek (6-4, 6-4).
Darren Cahill’s coach Yannick Sinner made some adjustments on the fly: he served more accurately, came into the game with more breaks in rhythm (especially short ones that destabilized Stefanos) and was more aggressive from the baseline.
The Italian made a great comeback (he won the third and fourth sets, 6-3, 6-4), also taking advantage of Tsitsipas’ mental breakdown.
In the deciding match, the Greek had enough strength not to think too much about the table and the fact that he was tied after the score 2-0 in the sets, he served harder and more accurately with his forehand, and the set came back to him 6-3.
The match at Rod Laver Arena lasted exactly four hours.
